How do you replace the shift knob on an Audi A4? Here’s how to disassemble it: Use a plastic trim tool to disconnect the leather boot frame. Grab the shift knob with both hands and pull it upward or twist it (a strong, decisive movement) until you remove it from the shift lever. Install the new boot (if replacing) and position it on the center console. Take the new shift knob and slide it onto the lever, tightening it until it is fully threaded/locked in place. Finally, test the movement of the lever on the center console to ensure the knob functions correctly.
