How to Replace the Starter Motor on an Audi A4

The starter motor on the Audi A4 B7 is hidden under the intake manifold, near the steering box. This job is quite uncomfortable and requires working in tight spaces and removing several components. Disconnect the battery and lift the car. Start by removing the air filter and its housing, disconnect and move the right front headlight assembly, disconnect the MAF connector, and loosen the intake manifold. From underneath, locate the starter motor, which is secured to the engine block with 2 to 3 long bolts; disconnect the electrical cables, remove the mounting bolts, and take the starter motor out of its place: it is heavy and bulky, and you will need to rotate it to pass it through the space you created. Clean the seat on the engine block and install the new starter motor, which you can find on eBay with the code 267186688058 for $53.74 plus $15.00 for shipping. Tighten the mounting bolts and reassemble everything in reverse order: manifold, hoses, headlight, air filter, fender, and wheel. Reconnect the battery and perform a functionality test.
