How to Install the Shift Knob in a BMW 3 Series

To replace the shift knob in a BMW 3 Series, first, engage second gear. Once done, grip the shift knob with both hands and pull firmly upward to remove it from its socket on the shift lever. If you look closely at the hole in the knob where the shift lever fits, you will see two different sections: the outer section corresponds to the "female" part of the socket, and the inner section corresponds to the "male" part. This is important for understanding how to fit the new knob. First, insert it onto the shift lever, and at the end of the stroke, give it an additional push to seat the "male" part into the hole of the lever and lock the knob in place.
