How to Replace the Fan Unit on BMW 5 Series

Model: BMW Serie 5 F11, F10 - Years 2010-2017

The first step is to disconnect the negative terminal of the battery, then disconnect the positive (red) wire from the fan; disconnect the electrical wiring connector, and remove the reinforcement bar with a 15 mm socket; this will free up space to work. Disconnect two more electrical connectors, remove some screws, and extract the ventilation unit. On a BMW 5 Series F10 that is about ten years old, the fan stops working, so it needs to be removed, but the difficult part is reinstalling the new fan; you need to remove the hood hinges and gas springs to lift the hood enough; this operation is necessary to achieve the correct angle to insert the new unit and may require patience and attempts. For reassembly, follow the reverse order: reinforcement bar, electrical connectors, screws, and fasteners: connect the positive (red) wire to the fan, reconnect the connectors, reconnect the negative terminal of the battery, and clear the error codes with an OBD scanner.
