Remote Key Programming After Battery Replacement

Model: BMW Serie 5 E39 - Years 1995-2003

If you have replaced the key battery but it still does not work, you need to program the key. To do this, sit in the car with all doors closed and follow these steps: 1) insert the key, turn it to position 1 and immediately to position 0 while removing it from the ignition (WITHIN 5 SECONDS) 2) press and hold the door unlock button (the one with the arrow).
3) while holding the above button, press the door lock button 3 times.
4) release the unlock button. At this point, if the programming was successful, the locks will cycle closed and then open. The button pressing sequence must be completed within 15 seconds. If you have two keys with remotes, the programming procedure must be done simultaneously for both keys, meaning you need to repeat steps 2), 3), and 4) for the second key (even if it is functioning).
