When to Change the Timing Chain on a BMW 1 Series

The timing chain keeps the engine 'synchronised', particularly the crankshaft with the camshaft, allowing the pistons and valves to operate simultaneously while maintaining the timing. For the replacement timing, refer to the owner’s manual. Generally, the replacement interval is between 75,000 miles and 112,000 miles or after 5/6 years of use, even if 75,000 miles has not been reached. However, it is necessary to perform preventive checks every 18,500 miles starting from 37,500 miles.
