To replace the timing chain on a BMW 1 Series, open the bonnet to access the components inside the engine bay. You will need to loosen the bolts securing the upper part of the engine block and the front cover of the engine. Underneath, you will find the sprockets with the associated chain, which must be removed from its housing after loosening the central nuts of the sprockets; this will allow you to remove the old chain, insert a new one, and reassemble all the previously removed components. This replacement should occur no later than 112,000 miles.
