To replace the rear differential oil in a BMW X3, access the underside of the vehicle: the differential is located at the center of the rear axle. Locate the oil drain plug and remove it to allow all the old oil to flow into a properly positioned container.

Once all the oil has completely drained, you can refill it through the same vent. You will need a pump to insert the oil into the differential.
