Front Wheel Hub Bearing Replacement

Model: BMW X3 MK 1, E83 - Years 2003-2010

To perform this maintenance, position the vehicle on a lift and remove the front wheel, the complete brake caliper with its bracket, and the brake rotor. Disconnect the tie rod end from the steering rack and the suspension control arm to free the hub support. Remove the speed sensor, the bolt securing the shock absorber to the hub support, and extract the axle to completely free the support. Use a bushing and a hammer to extract the hub from the support, detach the retaining ring that secures the bearing, and remove the outer flange. Then, place the support under a hydraulic press to extract the old bearing and insert the new one, then apply the retaining ring, the flange, and press the hub back into place using the press. Once the assembly is complete, reverse the steps for installation back onto the vehicle.
