BMW Serie 5 - Video tutorial

Model: BMW Serie 5 E39 - Years 1995-2003
Part: Engine
Operation: Flowmeter repair instructions

If the engine exhibits problems in the delivery of power, it is likely that there may be a problem in the flow meter which provides the engine management control unit with incorrect information on the amount of air sucked in by the engine; inside the flowmeter there is in fact a sliding contact potentiometer that controls the position of the air deflector which in turn moves according to the intake air flow: precisely because the device is subject to sliding contacts to wear; the repair therefore consists in ensuring contact by applying a piece of wire between the two elements; then remove the plastic cover, remove the connector and the potentiometer; clean the tracks and solder a piece of wire to the contact on the connector and then solder the other end to the potentiometer.
