How to replace the timing chain on the BMW 1 Series?

To replace the timing chain on the BMW 1 Series, loosen the screws that secure the plastic cover located at the front of the engine block: once this is removed, you will be able to locate the camshaft sprockets and the chain tensioners. These can be removed from their housing by loosening the screws that secure them: this will allow the chain to reduce its tension, enabling removal. After the chain has been removed from its seat, you can insert the new one, reinstalling the chain tensioners and covering everything with the appropriate panels.
