Battery Replacement Without Losing Codes

Model: BMW Serie 5 E60, E61 - Years 2003-2010
Part: Battery

Many electronic systems in the vehicle can lose some settings if the battery is disconnected, from the simple clock to the radio unlock code. There is a way to disconnect and replace the battery without needing to enter any codes or perform any resets. While the battery is located in the trunk, the engine compartment has two terminals to connect a booster or a backup battery with the appropriate cables, keeping the vehicle's electrical system powered during the battery removal. Once this precaution is taken, proceed with the battery replacement by removing the load floor cover and the side cover to access the battery compartment, removing the battery hold-down brackets, disconnecting the terminals, and extracting the old battery to install the new one. Once the terminals are reconnected, you can disconnect the booster terminals.
