Replacing the Dead Battery

Model: BMW X5 E53 - Years 1999-2006
Part: Battery

Open the trunk and then the fuse box to check their integrity. Lift the trunk floor and secure it with the appropriate hook. Remove the retaining screw for the spare tire and take out the retaining plate. Lower the floor and pull the spare tire from its compartment. Using a ratchet wrench, remove all the nuts holding the compressor in place. Lift the compressor vertically and secure it. First, loosen the nut on the negative terminal and remove it from the battery, then loosen the nut on the positive terminal and take it off the battery post. Remove the nut located on the right side of the battery, taking off the retaining plate at the bottom. Pull the battery out of its compartment using the designated handles. Install the new battery and secure it properly with the screw and plate. Clean the battery terminals with sandpaper or a cloth. Position the terminal on the positive post, pushing it down firmly and tighten the retaining nut; then perform the same operation with the negative terminal.
Reposition the compressor in its place and tighten the retaining nuts. Reinstall the spare tire by tightening the retaining nut with its plate. Close the trunk floor.
Do not dispose of the dead battery in the environment; take it to the appropriate recycling centers.
