How do you remove the storage compartment drawer in the BMW X5?

In order to remove the glove compartment of the BMW X5, you need to open the passenger door so that the side panel of the dashboard can be detached. Under this panel, there will be a rope that needs to be pulled in order to open the compartment. Once it is opened, the panel needs to be slid off at its base, so that all the underlying fastening clips can be released. This will allow the entire compartment to be extracted from its housing, so that the new replacement piece can be installed, properly securing it with its clips.
