Replacing the starter motor on a Chevrolet Malibu MK6 is a challenging task, but feasible for a hobbyist. Access varies depending on the version and engine type, but it is always best to access from underneath.

Lift the front, remove the engine cover, and locate the starter motor, which is a cylindrical component with thick cables attached. Disconnect the smaller connector first, followed by the thicker one. Remove the fastening bolts, which are 15 mm, rather long, and difficult to reach.

Take out the starter motor, clean the mounting area, and apply dielectric grease to the terminals of the new starter, which you can obtain from eBay with code 266640322760 for £94.54, with free delivery in 2 days. Position the new starter and tighten the bolts with a torque wrench.

Reconnect the electrical cables, first the thicker positive one and then the thinner one. Refit the covers, lower the car, reconnect the negative battery cable, and now you can test the system.
