How to Remove the Fuel Pump from a Chevrolet Silverado 1500 HD

To perform this operation, work in a well-ventilated area and always disconnect the negative terminal of the battery: the fuel tank should be as empty as possible. Raise the rear of the vehicle and locate the two bolts securing the straps; remove them with a 15 mm socket. With the help of an assistant, gently lower the tank, which is still connected to the air lines and fuel line. Locate the connectors on the top of the tank; the fuel pump is mounted from above. To disconnect them, press the plastic tabs together and pull the hose. Disconnect the electrical connector: now the tank can be removed. On the top of the tank, you will see a retaining ring holding the pump. Using a screwdriver and a rubber mallet, tap the notches of the ring counterclockwise to unscrew it; once the ring is removed, carefully extract the entire fuel pump assembly. Before installing the new pump, replace the strainer and the retaining ring gasket.
