How to Recharge the Air Conditioning on a Chevrolet Silverado

To recharge the air conditioning on a Chevrolet Silverado, start by removing the lower cap from the A/C system. Get an A/C gauge connected to its hose, a can of refrigerant (the video uses "134a refrigerant" brand "auto air conditioner"), and screw the can onto the appropriate side of the gauge. The gauge has white, green, and red markings, where the green side indicates it's good, while the red side indicates that the gas is over-pressurized and therefore not good; keep the needle in the green zone. Before starting to recharge the system, turn on the vehicle, let it warm up, and set the air conditioning to maximum while it runs during the refill. Now, place the gauge cap on the end where you removed the cap, pressing it in and ensuring it doesn't move. To get an accurate reading, wait for the A/C compressor to engage. Once the compressor kicks in, shake the can, press the trigger on the gauge, and begin to rotate the can from a vertical to a horizontal position while filling. Periodically release the trigger to check the indicator and continue holding the trigger until the can is empty. When you start to feel the can is empty, turn it upside down to release any remaining gas. At this point, get back in the vehicle and check if it's cold. You can then turn off the vehicle, disconnect the gauge by pulling the tab on the cap towards you, and screw the cap back onto the system.
