How to Unscrew a Damaged Oil Sump Plug

Model: Chrysler Pt Cruiser MK 1 - Years 2000-2010

If the oil sump drain plug has been damaged during previous removals to the extent that it no longer allows normal access and fitting of the relevant tool, a solution must be found to unscrew it. You can try using a chisel, but if it tends to break, it is advisable to proceed as follows: suck the oil from the engine by inserting the appropriate tube into the oil dipstick hole to aspirate it with a vacuum pump. Once all the oil has been removed, proceed to disassemble the oil sump, wash it thoroughly, and weld a nut onto the plug to unscrew it, then reverse the process for reassembly, applying a new plug.
