How do the Hydractive III suspensions of Citroen work?

In this video we can see the functioning of the Hydractive III suspensions of Citroen; in this case it is a C5. The hydropneumatic system works thanks to a hydraulic circuit that connects the wheels to spheres filled with nitrogen and mineral oil; the movement of the wheels, caused by the roughness of the terrain, is transmitted to the oil, which in turn compresses the nitrogen present in the spheres. This compression of the nitrogen provides a reaction force that absorbs the stresses, offering a high level of driving comfort. Unlike traditional suspensions that use springs and mechanical shock absorbers, the hydropneumatic system offers several advantages, such as superior comfort, improved road holding and constant ground clearance. However, Citroen discontinued the production of vehicles with this type of suspension in 2015, but this technology remains an indelible symbol in the history of the brand.

How to Open the Bonnet on the Lancia Y
