Halfshaft Replacement Instructions

Model: Citroen Saxo MK 1 - Years 1996-2004

The halfshaft is a component of the drivetrain, which is the set of mechanisms that transmit the energy developed by the engine to the wheels. Front-wheel-drive cars, to allow the driving wheels to steer, are equipped with constant velocity joints protected by rubber boots. To replace the halfshaft, it is advisable to lift the vehicle (preferably on a ramp) and remove the front wheel; detach the ball joint of the suspension arm (use a fork puller or a lever rather than a hammer), disconnect the anti-roll bar from the suspension arm and the halfshaft nut from the hub to extract it first from the wheel side and then from the gearbox side (some oil may leak out). Then insert the new halfshaft, this time first from the gearbox side and then from the wheel side, tighten the hub nut, making a security indent with a chisel to prevent it from accidentally loosening, and reassemble the suspension arm ball joint and the anti-roll bar. Check the gearbox oil level.
