Dacia Sandero Smoking from the Engine Oil Cap

What could be the cause of smoke coming from the engine oil cap? The primary suspect is steam mixed with combustion gases that manage to bypass the piston rings and enter the sump (the lower part of the engine where the oil is). This is normal, but why does it become a problem? If the engine has high mileage or worn rings, the amount of gas entering the sump increases excessively; the PCV system cannot vent it all, and internal pressure pushes oil vapour out of the only weak point: the oil cap. It could also be a blocked or faulty PCV system, trapping gases in the sump and increasing pressure. Try slightly opening the oil cap while the engine is hot and running. If you feel a strong pressure escaping, the confirmation is almost certain.
