How to Replace the Oil and Oil Filter on a Dodge Caravan

To replace the oil and oil filter, start by removing the upper engine cover by simply pulling it off. Disconnect the hose covering the oil filter, loosen the air intake hose clamp, unclip the upper clips of the air filter box, and remove the upper box and hose. Using a 24mm socket wrench, unscrew the oil filter cap and place it on some paper. Raise the vehicle, remove the lower oil pan cover, and with a 13mm socket wrench, unscrew the oil drain plug to let the oil drain into a container. Once the oil has drained, take the old oil filter out of its housing, remove the old oil filter cap gasket, insert the new gasket, and position the new oil filter into the housing. Clean the oil drain plug seat, then reinstall the oil drain plug using a torque wrench set to 33 lb-ft. Reinstall the new filter housing. Place a funnel in the oil fill hole, pour in the specified quarts of oil from the manufacturer, and when you are close to the exact amount, check the oil level using the dipstick (check the level a second time after pulling out the dipstick). If the level is at the max mark, it's good; otherwise, top it off. Finally, reattach the hose with the air filter box cover, the snap hose, and the upper engine cover.
