Demonstration of Half Shaft Dismantling

Model: Dodge Caliber MK 1 - Years 2006-2012
Part: Axle shaft

To dismantle the half shaft, first lift the car with a jack and position axle stands in accordance with safety regulations. Remove the wheel. Take out the safety pin and unscrew the nut at the centre of the brake disc. You can have someone help by pressing the brake pedal during this operation. Behind the brake disc, unscrew the steering arm. Do not hit directly on the pin to remove it. Remember that when you reassemble this pin, you will need to use another spanner to prevent the pin from turning while you screw the nut back on. Now loosen the nut that secures the drop link to the shock absorber. Completely unscrew it using two spanners as shown in the images. At this point, you have two options: you can unscrew the two bolts that secure the shock absorber to the hub or unscrew the other anchoring bolt of the hub to the lower suspension arm. In the video, the first option was chosen as it was easier given the condition of the bolts. Continue by unscrewing the brake pipe support and the ABS sensor support. Unscrew the securing nuts of the shock absorber. To remove the bolts, screw the nuts back a few turns to avoid damaging the thread if you need to hit them. Hit the half shaft pin to push it out from the back of the hub. Lever it out to detach the half shaft from the engine, which is attached via a retaining ring as shown in the images. Car model: Dodge Caliber
Year: 2007/2012
Required tools: jack, axle stands, open-ended spanners, ring spanners, and socket sizes 9-10-13-15-18 mm, Allen key.
