How to Replace the Battery (Without Leaving the Car Without Power)

This video shows how to replace the battery in a Fiat Punto without ever leaving it without power. This method is used for newer vehicles that are equipped with various control units. Remove the battery support by unscrewing the two 10 mm hex screws, then loosen the terminals without disconnecting them. Take the leads and connect them to the terminals of the new battery. Generally, the positive (+) terminal corresponds to the red lead, while the negative (-) terminal corresponds to the black lead (green/blue/azure). Connect the clamps to the terminals of the new battery and attach the other end of the clamps to the old battery; this time, however, do not attach them directly to the terminals but to the respective terminals. Do this with both leads: positive terminal with the red lead and negative terminal with the black lead! Now the batteries are connected to each other. At this point, disconnect the clamps from the old battery while keeping the terminals (which you had previously only loosened) attached. Place them aside from the battery site. Now remove the old battery (which needs to be disposed of) and insert the new battery. Now you need to reconnect the terminals from the clamp to the respective terminals, being careful not to lose electrical contact (which would render the entire procedure useless). At this point, tighten the terminals again.
