Changing the gearbox oil is a maintenance task that is often overlooked. However, running the gears in clean oil with optimal lubricating properties not only preserves the gears from wear but also improves gear engagement. Start by lifting the vehicle on a ramp to access the drain and fill plugs. Before unscrewing them, clean their seats to prevent dirt from entering the gearbox. First, unscrew the fill plug, then the drain plug, and wait for all the oil to drain out. Screw the drain plug back in, and fill the gearbox with the appropriate oil until it starts to overflow, then replace the plug.
