It is quite common for the friction caused by gear changes, along with the wear of the covering not made of genuine leather, to make the gear shift gaiter frayed and worn. You can replace this gaiter with one made of genuine leather, and the disassembly is straightforward. Start by detaching the frame at the base of the gaiter, which is attached via an internal elastic. Then remove the top part of the gear knob by prying at its base to access the fixing pin of the knob itself. Once the pin and knob are removed, you can slide off the gaiter and proceed with the installation of the new one by first securing the base to the appropriate frame.
