How to Change the Rear Brake Pads on a 2006 Ford Focus

Replacing the rear brake pads is a DIY maintenance task that can be easily performed, but be cautious when lifting the vehicle and ensure you have the correct tool to rotate and retract the caliper piston. Once the car is positioned on suitable axle stands and the rear wheel is removed, disconnect the external retaining spring of the caliper, remove the protective caps from the caliper mounting pins, and unscrew them to take off the caliper. Extract the old pads and retract the piston: if you do not have the proper tool, you can use a clamp to hold the piston while rotating it with a pair of adjustable pliers. At this point, insert the new pads, reposition the caliper, secure it with the relevant pins, apply the caps and the external spring before remounting the wheel.
