How to replace the rear discs and pads of a Ford Transit MK8.

On the rear of the Ford Transit MK8, the brake disc is mounted directly on the wheel hub, which in turn contains the adjustable bearing. Therefore, to change the disc, we need to disassemble the entire half-shaft and remove the bearing. We remove the wheel, unlock and remove the half-shaft, after which we will find a large tightening nut with a diameter of 50mm that has a left-hand thread. There is a critical procedure to follow here; after installing the new disc and bearing, we tighten the adjusting nut to 88Nm to seat the components, then loosen the nut by half a turn, rotate the disc several times to seat the bearing rollers, and re-tighten the nut to a very light torque (30Nm). We will also need to replace the half-shaft seal, the ABS ring, and the half-shaft bolts. This is a task we can do ourselves only if we are very experienced and have the Ford workshop manual (and if we are prepared for a job that takes 3 to 4 hours per side); otherwise, it is better to have it done at a workshop.
