Ford Focus - Video tutorial

Model: Ford Focus MK 1 - Years 1998-2004
Part: Brake discs
Operation: How to replace the front brake discs

This video shows how to replace the brake discs of the front wheels of a Ford Focus. After having raised the car with a lift, remove the front wheel by unscrewing the fixing bolts. Now with a Torx T45 screwdriver bit mounted on a ratchet wrench, unscrew the two bolts that hold the caliper. With the help of your hands, detach the caliper from the disc and, to do so, remove its stops. With a screwdriver, remove the retaining spring of the pads. At this point it is necessary to remove the disc: block it temporarily with the wheel fixing bolts and then hit it vigorously with a hammer in order to move it. When it is detached, remove the bolts and take out the disc. Now compress the caliper piston using a large C-clamp. Fit a new disc and new pads and reassemble the caliper as before. Re-attach the anchor spring and secure the caliper retainers. Reassemble the wheel by performing the operations in reverse of removal. Give the wheel bolts a final tightening with the car on the ground (off the bridge). With the car stationary, press the brake pedal several times to run in the disc seal.

Handbrake adjustment on Ford Ecosport

First remove the plastic profile at the base of the gear lever. To do this, slightly widen the side edges and carefully lift it to release it. There is no need to remove it completely, just move it forward to avoid bother. Now remove the plastic center console around the handbrake by first working from the rear to release it and lifting it until the brake lever passes. Also in this case it is not necessary to remove it completely but, paying attention to the connected cables, it can be stowed in front of the passenger seat. At this point we notice that at the base of the handbrake lever, on the front, we find a nut. By acting on it, with a 10 wrench, we can adjust the brake force, increasing it by turning the nut clockwise, or decreasing it by turning it counterclockwise. Once adjusted, the center console can be repositioned first, pressing lightly to engage it, and then the profile of the gearbox base.
