How to Install Side Steps on the Ford F150

Model: Ford F-150 MK 12 - Years 2009-2014

To install side steps on the Ford F150, it is recommended to use original Ford parts, which have the necessary certification. If you want to install them yourself, remember to check with your local motor vehicle department if they require inspection of the part. Not all motor vehicle departments inspect side steps, but if the steps are included in the registration booklet, it states that "the vehicle may be equipped from the factory with external body modifications." If this statement is not present, the steps must be inspected, with technical documentation attached to the steps, signed and stamped by the installer, and a proper installation letter signed by the installer. Therefore, if you install them yourself, remember that you will need to find someone willing to do you this (big) favor of signing the release letter for you. Keep in mind that uninspected side steps can cause significant problems in the event of a side collision with another vehicle, especially with insurance. So, check thoroughly with your local DMV, or have them inspected for added safety.
