How to Dismantle the Alternator of a Ford Focus

Having problems with your car? In this video, see how to remove the alternator from a Ford Focus. Pull the lever located at the bottom left of the dashboard and lift the bonnet, securing it in place.

Locate the battery and disconnect the terminals to avoid any issues for you and the vehicle. To remove the alternator from your Ford Focus, you need to take out the left front headlight, so unscrew the bolt on the headlight and pull it out from the bumper.

Then, disconnect the bulb power connectors. Start identifying the part to work on, unscrew the bolts with a socket spanner, being careful not to damage the wiring harness membranes.

Lift the car with a column lift and remove the relevant plastic undertray, unscrew all the securing bolts of the alternator. Once dismantling is complete, extract it from the engine bay. Now take the new replacement part and insert it into the appropriate housing, screw in the securing bolts, then tighten the side bolts of the alternator.

Check the correct voltage with a tester by connecting it to the battery; this check should be done with the engine running to see if the value indicated by the tester increases. Refit the front headlight with the respective bolts and ensure the car is functioning properly.
