To replace the key battery in a Ford Explorer, start by extracting the mechanical key from the remote. Look for the small release button on the remote and press it to remove the mechanical key. Once the key is removed, locate the slot or opening point on the remote casing.

Use a small flat-head screwdriver or a similar tool to carefully open the casing by prying at the slot. Once the casing is separated, you will see the battery inside.

Note the position and orientation of the battery to ensure you insert the new one correctly. Remove the old battery and replace it with a new one of the same type, ensuring it is oriented correctly.

Reassemble the remote casing, pressing it firmly until you hear a click indicating it is closed properly. Finally, reinsert the mechanical key into the remote.

Your key should now function correctly with the new battery.
