How to Clean the EGR Valve on a Hyundai i20

Let's see how to clean the EGR valve on a Hyundai i20: the operation shown in the video is particularly complex as the vehicle has covered 240,000 miles. Disconnect the external flexible hoses and air ducts located above or near the manifold to create working space. Remove the intake manifold: unscrew and remove the entire intake manifold from the vehicle. This is where most soot and debris accumulate in diesel engines. Next, unscrew and remove the main metal connecting pipe of the EGR valve and then the valve body itself. Now, proceed with the mechanical removal of carbon deposits using scrapers, wire brushes, or specific tools to manually remove large blocks of carbon deposits (black sludge) from inside the intake manifold and the EGR pipe inlet. Then, thoroughly wash the inside of the disassembled metal components using degreasers and high-pressure water until the passages are completely clear. Since the parts are disassembled, it is highly recommended to also disassemble and wash the intercooler internally with high-pressure water to restore proper airflow. Then dry all components thoroughly, reassemble the intake manifold and the EGR valve, ensuring the gaskets are aligned correctly. Reconnect the electrical connectors, air hoses, the battery, and the previously removed protective plastics.
