How to Change the Alternator Belt on a Hyundai i20

Model: Hyundai I20 GB, IB, MK 2 - Years 2014-2021

To change the alternator belt, first locate the tensioner (usually a pulley with a central bolt or pin). Loosen the nuts or bolt of the tensioner (with a 13 or 17 mm spanner, depending on the version) and rotate the tensioner to slacken the belt. Before removing it, take a photo to avoid mistakes during reassembly. Following the diagram, route the new belt around all the pulleys except for the tensioner; use a lever to slightly tension the tensioner and fit the belt onto the last pulley. Tension the belt and tighten the tensioner nut to a torque of 25/35 Nm. The belt should not be too loose, but also not too tight, or it will squeal. Run the engine in neutral for a few minutes and check that the belt does not rub or vibrate. Also, ensure that all the pulleys are aligned and turning correctly.
