In the case of an automatic gearbox, the quality of the oil inside is absolutely essential as it affects many factors such as gear wear and the quality and synchronisation of gear engagement. Although it is a closed circuit where anomalies should not occur (some manufacturers do not recommend any maintenance for the automatic gearbox), it is certainly optimal to operate the gears and solenoids in clean oil; therefore, locate the oil drain plug underneath the gearbox, allow the oil to drain, clean the magnetic end of the plug from any debris before refitting it, and refill the gearbox with clean oil through the level check tube.
