It is well known that Jaguar-Land Rover 2.7/3.0 engines are problematic. Much depends on usage. If used mainly in the city, the fault lies with us for using them incorrectly. They require maintenance that should be increased compared to the intervals suggested by the manufacturer. Small issues related to the turbos are often underestimated, yet they can cause damage that necessitates complete replacement. Additionally, these engines require a specific type of oil, exclusively from Castrol or Shell, not just any 5W30. It may seem trivial, but it is crucial. The biggest problem remains diesel contamination in the oil due to the DPF, from missed regenerations or interrupted regenerations, which leads to most structural failures. These vehicles typically consume about one litre of oil every 6,200 miles. Due to missed regenerations, the oil level can even rise. This is caused by burnt diesel in suspension raising the oil level. Do not fill the oil tank when changing the oil; keep it just above halfway, and check the oil level once a week. If it drops, do not worry; just add a little. If it rises, it indicates diesel contamination, and you must replace the oil as soon as possible. The average oil change interval is 5,000 miles; this is the statistic.
