How to Fix Steering Noise on Kia and Hyundai

On Kia (like the Ceed in the video) and Hyundai I20 and I30 models, the steering makes an annoying "clock clock" noise when turning the wheel; even more bothersome is a "dead zone" felt at the centre. In some cases, the steering wheel does not return to centre on its own. The cause is a low-cost rubber bush inside the steering column that deteriorates and no longer dampens the mechanical play. The solution is to replace it with a reinforced polyurethane bush, which is more durable. Disconnect the battery (to avoid activating the airbags), remove the plastics under the steering wheel, disconnect the wiring and control units to access the column. Unscrew the bolts securing the steering column, lower it without detaching the steering wheel or lower joint (if possible), remove the old bush, grease the new one with petroleum jelly, fit the new bush into the column's teeth, and reassemble everything in reverse order.
