Instructions for Cleaning the EGR Valve

The EGR valve functions to reintroduce some exhaust gases back into the intake to reduce NOx emissions. Constant contact with exhaust gases, which over time tend to become contaminated with oil vapours and unburnt diesel, can clog the valve and its associated manifold, potentially causing it to jam, resulting in the engine warning light coming on and a reduction in performance. If the jamming of the valve body has not caused the electric actuator to fail, cleaning will resolve the issue. This involves removing the valve, cleaning the manifold using a vacuum, and washing the valve body with a suitable cleaner, ensuring that the shutter moves freely.
