To replace the remote control battery on a Mazda MX-5, lower the lever located at the back of the remote to slide out the key, pulling it from the bottom of the remote. Next, use a flathead screwdriver to pry from both sides inside the key housing.

This will allow you to open the remote and access the battery. The old battery should be removed by hand and replaced with a new one. After replacing the battery, close the remote again and insert the key.
