Mazda Mx 5 - Video tutorial

Model: Mazda Mx 5 NB, MK 2 - Years 1998-2005
Part: Timing belt
Operation: Timing belt replacement

It is advisable to carry out this maintenance only if you have good knowledge of general mechanics since a trivial error in the positioning of the belt could seriously compromise the functioning of the engine. Start by removing the part of the wiring located in front of the timing system cover, remove the auxiliary belt by loosening the tensioner of the power steering pump or alternator; drain the coolant and disconnect the sleeves of the thermostatic valve and the water pump; then remove the tappet cover and the timing cover; rotate the crankshaft pulley until the timing references are aligned; therefore disassemble the crankshaft pulley, the tensioner and idler bearings, the water pump and remove the toothed belt; then proceed with the installation of the timing kit which, in addition to the belt, includes the water pump, the tensioner and the idler.
