Timing Belt Replacement

Model: Mazda Mx 5 MK 2, NB - Years 1998-2005
Part: Timing belt

It is recommended to perform this maintenance only if you have good general mechanical knowledge, as a simple error in positioning the belt could severely compromise engine operation. Start by removing the wiring in front of the timing cover, dismantle the auxiliary belt by loosening the tensioner for the power steering pump or alternator; drain the coolant and disconnect the hoses from the thermostat and water pump; then remove the rocker cover and timing cover; rotate the crankshaft pulley until the timing marks are aligned; then dismantle the crankshaft pulley, the tensioner bearings, the idler pulley, the water pump, and remove the timing belt; proceed with the installation of the timing kit, which includes the belt, water pump, tensioner, and idler pulley.
