How to replace the timing belt on a Mercedes A-Class. Open the hood and secure it with the prop rod. Remove the air box (if you have space issues), disconnect the power wiring with pliers, and remove the plastic soundproofing panel with a screwdriver. Lift the car with a column lift to access the underside (if necessary). Use a wrench to loosen the tensioner pulley and slide the belt off. Use a socket wrench to remove the tensioner pulley securing bolt and remove the water pump. Install the new water pump, tensioner, and belt, and tighten everything with the socket wrench.
