How does the parking assistance system on Mercedes vehicles work?

The Mercedes vehicle parking assistance system, when active, supports the driver throughout the maneuver by taking care of steering, braking, speed regulation, and gear changes. During driving, the system measures possible parking spaces on both sides of the vehicle. However, even though the system is active, it is not able to calculate all possible parking variations, although it continues to work optimally in the case of parallel or perpendicular parking. Its functions are operational up to a speed of 35 km/h. But how is the system activated? The system is activated automatically during the parking phase, when the system finds a suitable parking space; the "P" symbol is then displayed on the instrument panel, indicating that the system is in operation. The car will automatically calculate the speed, distance, and space to perform parking in the most optimal way.
