Replacing the Engine RPM Sensor

Model: Mercedes Classe S MK 4, W220 - Years 1999-2005

A malfunctioning engine RPM sensor can cause engine starting issues, sudden shutdowns, or rough operation. Open the hood and ensure it is securely supported. Remove the plastic engine cover by pulling it upward (it consists of two pieces) and locate the RPM sensor: it is on the rear right side (when facing the engine) in a lateral position. Disconnect the connector from the sensor, remove the mounting bolt using an E8 Torx wrench, and take it out of its seat. Install the new sensor, tighten the mounting bolt, reconnect the connector, and check that the engine starts properly. Finally, reinstall the engine cover.
