How to Replace the Ignition Cylinder on Mercedes Benz E-Class W124

This guide shows how to replace the ignition cylinder on the Mercedes Benz E-Class W124. The first step is to remove the protective plastic from the cylinder. With the key inserted and turned to the first position, remove the protective pin from the cylinder. With the key still inserted and in the same position, insert a metal wire into the upper notch on the edge of the cylinder to disengage the retaining spring of the assembly. Once released, you can remove the piece by sliding it out. To install the new cylinder, insert the new piece and turn the key to the off position. Reinsert the key and turn it to the on position. Insert the protective pin of the cylinder and align it with the guides at the bottom of the housing. Turn off the ignition, remove the key, and reattach the protective plastic. Check the proper functioning of the piece until the engine starts.
