Replacing the Automatic Gearbox Oil Filter

Model: Mercedes Sprinter MK 1, W901 - Years 1995-2006

To replace the automatic gearbox oil filter, you need to remove the sump as the filter is integrated within it. Once you have drained the oil through the drain plug, unscrew the retaining bolts around the sump, remove the sump, and pull the filter downwards. Clean the sump thoroughly, removing any metal shavings that generally stick to the magnet inside the sump. Then, insert the new filter, the new gasket, and refit the sump, ensuring the retaining bolts are correctly positioned. Fill the gearbox with new oil and, if possible, flush the system.
