The central locking system on many Mercedes models is operated by a vacuum pump that activates various devices; it is generally located on the side, in the rear boot, beneath the carpet lining: therefore, remove the plastic boot trim and then the carpet lining to reach the pump, unscrew the relevant fixing pins, pull it from its housing, and disconnect both the connectors and the various tubes. Overall, this is a fairly simple operation that does not require special tools or precautions and can be easily done as a DIY task.
