In this video tutorial, we can see a brief presentation on how the parking assistance system works in a Mercedes B-Class. By engaging reverse gear, a message appears on the display to activate the parking assistance system, then confirm with OK and remove your hands from the steering wheel (the system will take over the maneuver), then you just need to accelerate and brake (perform the maneuver slowly without exceeding 10 km/h), stop when you hear an acoustic signal. The system searches for a suitable space that is parallel to the direction of travel and measures its dimensions using ultrasonic sensors. Once a space is identified, the system notifies the driver; the space must be at least one and a half meters wider than the vehicle and one meter longer (in order for the measurement to be taken, the vehicle's speed must not exceed 30 km/h). The display shows a P indicating the ongoing measurement and an arrow indicating the measured space. How does it work? A motor on the steering shaft makes it possible.
