What to do if the pump no longer opens the roof of the Mercedes SLK?

In this guide, we will identify why the roof of a Mercedes SLK is not functioning: the issue is the pump, so you need to obtain some power steering or automatic transmission oil. On the right side of the boot, you will find a small cover where the pump is located, with hoses leading to the pistons that operate the roof.

Check that the oil level is significantly below the minimum.

Using a 5mm Allen key, unscrew the filler cap at the bottom, but first, loosen the two screws at the front to release the pressure from the pump. Space is limited, but use a small pump to top up the oil until it reaches the maximum level.

To replace the cap, use a trick: place some cotton on the screw head to avoid losing it, and reposition it along with its copper washer. Now you can test the roof opening, which should work perfectly.

Another issue may be oil seepage from the piston that operates the roof: the solution is to service the piston. Indeed, the oil level has already decreased while using the roof.
