On the Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV, the hybrid service plug (known as the "Service Plug") is a crucial safety device that performs a critical function. It is located on the centre tunnel, in the rear area of the cabin, in front of the rear seat. It is covered by a protective metal cover, as seen in the video. This plug disables the current flow from the hybrid battery to the system when removed, ensuring safety during maintenance work. This protects technicians from electric shock during routine maintenance, electrical system interventions, high-voltage component replacements, and emergency management. It is not a plug that should be handled by the end user: therefore, never attempt to tamper with it unless you are qualified personnel. It is a mandatory safety requirement in all hybrid and electric vehicles.
