How to Remove the Spiral Contact on Nissan Pathfinder R51 2006-2012

This tutorial outlines the steps necessary to extract the spiral contact from the airbag unit on a Nissan Pathfinder R51 2006-2012. It may need to be replaced if the airbag warning light comes on. The first step is to remove the central airbag unit by pressing down on the button at the bottom of the steering wheel with a screwdriver. Exercise extreme caution, as you need to carefully extract the airbag unit and disconnect the horn and airbag wires. The next step is to remove the steering wheel; there is a central bolt to undo using a 19 mm socket. It may be difficult to pull off, so wiggle it a bit and then pull it off with firm jerks. To extract the spiral contact, now separate the plastic cover that protects it by unscrewing the two screws located at the bottom. You can now detach the spiral contact from the steering column using the two levers (which you will easily detach later); simply unscrew the two long horizontal screws and pull it out. Reattach the two side levers to the new spiral contact and reassemble everything in reverse order.
